Public art in Manly

Wall mural in Market Lane, Manly. It was done a couple of years ago to cover up an otherwise drab lane. It lists events in Manly over around 70 years. You can see more about public art in Manly here.

Progress unveils the past

Thanks to all the "development" of Dee Why, part of an old advert was discovered by a friend of mine. It looks like an existing ad was taken down from the side of a building to make way for a new appartment block and revealed an advertisment from the past. I must admit I don't remember when I last saw an AWA television.

Sunday is Market Day

Well so is Saturday really. This is my favourite market. Rozelle market - held in the grounds of Rozelle Public School. A beautiful old school opened on the 4th May 1878 (2 years before the NSW Department of Education was formed and education became compulsory). This photo wasn't taken today - it was too windy to do any real activity outdoors. I took this about 2 weeks ago so it's still pretty current.

Dust free outing

Thanks to all the wind and dust of late I've spent most of the weekend in a antihistimine haze. But I did venture out to Liechardt for a couple of hours. This is the arcade leading to the Italian Forum. Kind of a big square surrounded by appartment blocks with shops on the first floor. On ground level are amazing Italian restaurants and cafes. To windy to sit outside today but I found a small place that made nutella crepes. Bliss.

Red sky in morning

This morning I woke to find a strange sight outside. The sky had turned red. A huge dust storm had blown in from goodness knows where and changed the world as we knew it. I'm posting a few photos because it was such a bizarre occurrance.
1. Taken from my rear deck to show you just how red the sky was.
2. Where did the beach go? Taken just before going into work. Could you believe there were surfers out in that?
3. St Matthews church in the Corso.
4. Manly Wharf.
5. Finally, had to take a photo of this sign outside St Matthews church. I think it said it all.
